Very interesting in Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution is his statement
that "if you eat a variety of vegetables, and red meat once or twice a
week, you should not require supplements."

This, as does NeanderThin, seem to "fly in the face" of many of the low
carbohydrate authors of the day, especially Atkins, Eades et al.  Most
provide great supplement lists to follow and/or purchase in pre-done
pkgs., powders, bars etc.

On the B-complex Bernstein does point out the importance of breads and
grains, but provides alternatives such as bean sprouts, spinach,
broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower -- but if vegetables and bran
are not acceptable then supplementation would be required.

Bernstein points out that supplementation over the FDA's recommendation
could inhibit the body's synthesis of some vitamins and intestinal
absorption of certain minerals.  He also concerned with the potential
for toxicity.

An exception is made for Vitamin E which he does recommend to his
patients to help reduce the glycosylation of protein.
