Texas corn crop tested was
deemed unfit for human consumption because aflatoxin levels were above 20
parts per billion (some states set
the level at 5 ppb).  Although most of this rejected corn was below the 300
ppb allowed for animal feed,
surprisingly high numbers of samples were found to contain levels above
1000 ppb.

Makes one wonder how much wasn't tested!<


And guess where that rejected corn ended up??   On Nov. 2, the Doane Foods
Co., which manufactures dog foods for other companies, recalled several of
their brands after a vet. diagnostic laboratory confirmed the deaths of 25
dogs due to aflatoxins from corn which was traced to their foods.   The
recall was primarily in Texas and Louisiana (the affected food came from
Doane's plant in Texas).
