I first heard of the study about homocysteine and Alzheimer's on the Dr.
Mirkin radio talk show. He often has interesting/useful information, but
he has a strong bias against meat. His take on the study was that you
should eat more grains and no meat :-) because grains are high in folate
and meat is high in methiamine, which he fingers as the amino acid
causing high homocysteine. This is the kind of half-witted thinking that
had me being a vegetarian for many years---without folic acid some amino
acids in meat cause problems, therefore, you should stop eating
meat...?  This seems like through-the-looking-glass logic to me, but
watch this become one more argument vegetarians will throw at meat
eaters: eating meat causes Alzeimers.
