Well, what concerns me is that the crown above the extracted tooth is
killing me. First it was just sensitive to hot and cold and when chewing
hard foods. The day before the extraction it started hurting consistently
whether I was chewing or not. That consistent pain is still there only
worse. Also, every time the dentist "yanked" on my tooth to pull it out it
hurt on that same crown. I don't know if that's just referred pain or if
that's an infection under the crown. He took an x-ray but didn't see
anything wrong with it.

Same way you'd know if the tooth was still there.  Redness, swelling, pain,
that would worsen instead of getting better.  Use a mouthwash of 1 part
hydrogen peroxide and 3 parts water.  Or just plain old salt water.  wash
the mouth several times a day. Stick to soups, broth for a few days...
