Many of my friends are Mormon. They are mostly descendants of farmers and
are encouraged to keep a year's supply of food in the house, although many
no longer do. Thus, their diet is heavy in starches and other non-perishable
foods (canned). They are instructed to eat little meat and avoid alcohol,
coffee, and tea.

Here's a brief look at the 'Mormon 4':

The Mormon 4 was created by the Mormon church to provide one year of  food
at  low expense that would have a very long shelf life. Part of the Mormon
faith stipulates that all families should have at least one year of food in
storage. Here is a table of the Mormon 4:
