  It's the minerals in the cells that determine heart rate, not in the 
bloodstream necessarily.Intracellular IIRC.

For heart rate or rhythm disturbances an electrophysiologist is the one 
to consult, it's like the difference between a plumber (cardiologist) 
and an electrician.
