Of course hamsters, dogs, cats and rats are edible.
So are spiders and earthworms.
And humans too, not only since Hannibal «The Cannibal» Lecter.

There is something that prevents us of eating a dachshund, hamster, spider.
However I'm shure there are enough other food items left, which can keep us
well and alive while following such emotional constraints.

May it be hamsters, rats or cows.

Now I'm sorry to have suggested the rats.
A friend of mine was also fond of her pet rats.
