with some liver enzyme which is keeping her cholesterol high. He is, of
course, concerned by these new numbers and told her he wants to see her
immediately. My assumption is that he is going to insist she go back on
the statin drug. At this point, I must admit I'm feeling a bit
squeamish about the whole thing and don't feel confident advising her.

I wondering . . . do some people continue to have cholesterol problems
even after strictly following a low carb plan? And, if so, is there
anything else that can be done other than those stupid cholesterol
drugs?>>

  Hi Chuck,

Statin drugs cause liver dysfunction. The liver enzyme, lipase, burns
hormone-sensitive fats and will clear out lipid deposits in the arteries.
Lipase in the body is activated through an activity like walking. Lipase is
also as a digestive enzyme. I've seen it help, but walking works better.

The statin drugs inhibit the biosynthesis of CoQ10 in the body, and cause
malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins. They also damage the heart,
possibly due to the lack of CoQ10 that protects the mitochondrial cell
membranes.

George Ohsawa (macrobiotics guru) claims that very little water is necessary
for the body. I haven't found this to be the case with most people. But I
have seen many people who begin drinking 8-10 oz. of water an hour (less to
begin with if there are problems with edema and heart failure), and two
glasses of water before a meal be able to get off and stay off statin drugs.

Regards,
Siobhan
