For me — and I suspect for a large number out there — I’d also add to that list other concentrated sources of carbohydrate. Not just table sugar and corn syrup, but also honey and even some fruits, at least for daily eating. And alcohol is a relatively rare treat. Instead of drinking a couple of glasses a day at say two bucks a glass, I spend the same amount monthly on a really nice bottle. It works better for me and, man, do I ever enjoy myself! Last time I smoked a nice leg of lamb over pecan wood from my back yard. Had some crimini mushrooms sautéed in the drippings alongside. And a really nice Oregon Pinot noir. Does NOT get better than that!

Me too. See above.

It’s really not rocket science. I’d also add frankenfats, processed fats, to your list of no no’s. Good fat is so good for us. I’ve been in the habit of taking about half a teaspoon three or four times a day at work in lieu of lunch. Big breakfast, no lunch. And then a feast at night!

Regarding metabolism, if you have any symptoms of metabolic syndrome -- overweight, cardiovascular, diabetes — which the majority of us do, you need to do the low carbohydrate version of paleo. It is the one diet that puts all the pieces together, IMO. I believe it also to be cancer-protective.
