Did anyone see the National Geographic Heart of Africa program, "Fire and Ice?" I just saw it on PBS and found the ending, about gorillas, very touching.

Part of the program focused on chimps in the Viruga National Park. The area of the park where the chimps live is volcanic and the land is very porous. Rain water doesn't pool and the chimps find drinking water in the hollowed out pockets of trees. The chimps become very excited when they find another source of water: tubers. They dig the tubers out of the ground and may carry them around all day using them like water bottles.

I was interested to learn that the chimps actually dig tubers, but really interested to learn that they have the foresight to carry them throughout the day and use them like water bottles.

The narrator referred to the gorillas as vegetarians...I thought they ingested insects during grooming, and possibly termites from termite hills. Not sure how much insect protein they could eat and still be called vegetarian.
