Well, I live in a residential area and cannot keep a rooster here so chickens
are out of the question. Also I'm not too keen on eggs so there's no real
benefit in keeping chickens for me.
Rabbits however seem to be a good source of lean meat. The killing is
something I think might be hard at first but I look onto life maybe different
than the mainstream people. Whenever my dog catches a mouse I do not scream
and squirm like anyone that happens to witness it and take interest in his
hunting-technique. I feed him raw meats and bones so that's no worry at all
for me to touch and see.
Also I sometimes visit a slaughterhouse for sheep where you can buy lamb fresh
from the slaughter. I'm not fussed about the steaming carcasses hanging around
me so it might just take some getting used to.
Who said only New-Zealand lamb was worth eating? We have great lamb here and
if you come round I'll cook you a great meal ;-)
So the question remains, is it worth a while to raise rabbits? The saying
about "breeding like rabbits" better be true in this case ;-) The book of
selfsufficiency explains about the killingpart in a understandable way. A
matter of taking each end of bunny in each hand and pull and twist so the neck
breaks. In my mind a humane death and certainly in the Paleo-thought. I mean,
what's more Paleo than free-range home-raised meats? Ok ok, hunted meat
ofcourse but in lack of that....
