Milk is low iron for a very good reason. Bacteria need lots of iron to
reproduce. Slight anemia (slight!) is normal in all baby mammals being
milk fed. If you want to make sure your kid is getting iron just give
him pureed meat.

I started my kids on chewed fruit for their very first food. They loved
it. They also got rice broth I think, from grandma.
