If you want to stay in the stone age...I'd reccomend lots of raisins
and dried bananas for quick energy.

This is also a prime opportunity for well "hunting and gathering"...here
in the northwest I think the salmon berries are pretty abundant right
now.

I'd keep on the look out for any local berries. huckleberries, black
berries, wild rasberrys... If there's any stocked lakes up in the high
sierras, go after some trout (if you like to fish).

If you're packing all your own food...you can't do any better than dried
meats and fruits in terms of weight.

My one backpacking essential is Tobasco sauce. It makes everything taste
good out in the woods...everything.

If you live in the city...one of the the great things about backpacking is
that after 2 or 3 days...your taste buds and senses will awaken, and food
often has fuller and richer flavor.

Have a great trip...I'm jealous.
Craig
