Pure conjecture/speculation/extrapolation:

It's possible men who were hunting ate very little while on the trail, and
feasted once the hunt was complete. At the same time women, who were out ga
thering (or performing other "domestic" duties), were possibly munching thr
oughout the day. Which could explain the difference that exists (if any). T
his is, of course, a veeerrrry generalized supposition.
