You may want to check out ProteinPower by Dr. Eades.  It is easier to
follow than Paleo and in terms of cholesterol it often achieves the
same positive results as Paleo.

Bottom line is that high triglycerides are an indication of a
metabolic disorder, which often resolves when the overall carbohydrate
intake is drastically reduced.  Depending on how damaged the metabolic
system is, this maybe able to be reversed in day or in many months.  I
highly suspect that that whole grain bread and those bowls of steel
cut oats are adding up.  In someone that has a low activity level
anything much over 40-60 carbs a day is going to spell trouble.

I would not take the statin.  I took one for a long time, and it had a
lot of suttle side effects that overtime got worse and worse.
