(I think the main purpose of this post is to vent my frustration.)

I met with a pediatrician this morning, hoping to line up a doctor for my 
soon-to-be-arriving daughter.  I mentioned that I favor a diet high in 
vegetables, fruits and other unprocessed/natural foods, and that I try to 
avoid dairy.  This doctor advised me since I'm obviously not getting "enough 
dairy" that I "need" to be taking a calcium supplement.  She urged me to do 
the "responsible" thing and start consuming large amounts of dairy, for both 
my own and my baby's sake.

(Needless to say, I'm still looking for a pediatrician!)

I think I might send her a couple of articles, like this one, pointing out 
that in societies where people don't consume dairy, the rate of hip 
fractures is about 1/5 of that in our socieity:
