I'm glad. We need to do much more of it.

I disagree. It is much more than a band-aid. It is
part of the natural order of things. A "wild" animal
occupies a particlular eco-niche and takes from the
land what it needs to survive. At the same time it
"composts" what it took and leaves spoor which
replenishes the land. Eventually, it gives everything
back to the land as it becomes compost itself.
Continuous interaction with the land, both taking and
returning, is how it is supposed to work.

Any experienced gardener will tell you that, if
anything, nutrients are released UN-evenly over time.
Every eco-niche has its own personality. If you wander
around long enough in the woods you will find areas
with inches or even feet of topsoil, and other areas
with a bare dusting of topsoil.
