My (admittedly limited) understanding is that prolonged stimulation of the
autoimmune system may lead to autoimmune diseases. Two such diseases which
may be relevant in Todd's case are diabetes (leading to abnormal insulin
levels) and thyroid disfunction (which Todd already suspects).

Maybe this doesn't explain Todd's situation. Perhaps the only way to find
out would be for us to railroad Todd onto this diet and observe the results :)
