I don't know how good my info is, but I've read in several different
places that before
the advent of electric light, people went to sleep very early in the
winter season,
not long after it got dark. Then they would wake up in the middle of the
night,
talk, have sex, etc., and go back to sleep again until dawn. This pattern
was
even true in the Middle Ages.

When I've been backpacking (years ago), when the sun went down, we went to
sleep.
It was next to impossible to stay awake, provided we'd already cooked and
eaten dinner.
After a full day of hiking and toting the pack, we could sleep soundly
until the
morning light.

It would be an interesting experiment to shut off anything electric once
the sun
went down: computer, TV, lights, etc., and watch your sleep patterns. I
think once
your house got dark, it would seem like time to go to bed.
