Another recovering rosacean here, Dena. And mine was *really* bad!
After I had my first child (13.5 years ago), I started getting red,
itchy skin on my face, frequent outbreaks of tiny, rash-like pimples,
and deep flushing on my face and neck for no apparent reason. After two
more babies, it only got progressively worse --- more frequent flushing,
constant rashes, creeping behind my ears and into my scalp --- and
topical treatments helped very little. I was convinced that this was an
external response to an internal problem, and I kept experimenting with
elimination diets over the years years, but couldn't seem to put my
finger on the culprit.
Earlier this year I went for food allergy and sensitivity testing, and
started reading up on autoimmune disorders --- I had many other symptoms
that suggested an autoimmune problem. My reading, the food testing, and
the advice of a friend who is controlling similar symptoms through diet
led me to the "radical" approach of eliminating all sugar, grains,
legumes, dairy (except for butter), tomatoes and potatoes from my diet,
et voila! My rosacea is 95% improved, and all my other symptoms
(fatigue, anxiety, digestive problems, insomnia, upper respiratory
problems) have disappeared.
