In a TV program about San hunting in Kalahari, they showed how a good
runner followed a rather big antelope, I think it is called gemsbok.
He found the fresh tracks and followed the animal for several of the
hottest hours of the day. At last the animal was exhausted and just
stood still so the hunter could easily throw his three spears through
it. He said he helped it to die. He was very thankful to the god that
had sent him the animal. After a while two other hunters arrived and
they sliced the meat and hang it up on tree branches to dry, as it would
be easier to transport that way. The next day they brought the prey home.
Such a hunt is possible because an upright hunter does not get as much
hot sunshine as the animal when the sun is high on the heaven, and also
the sweating helps. No other big predator can use this technique.
