Meat is always a good start! If money is a problem just buy whatever is
cheapest to start with. You can add frills later. A little meat goes a long
way.

I use my grill outdoors a lot, and grill up several days worth at a time. It
keeps well in the fridge. I will do a variety of meats so I have some
different tastes and textures.

On the grill, I sometimes 'smoke meat'. Just push it all the way to the back
and close the lid and leave it overnight. In the morning it has become done.
But be careful not to use too much heat, I burned some the first few times.
Venison and beef both do well this way. Pork too, actually.

Really tough cuts of meat I just boil till soft, then make soup.

Or, with tough meat slice it thin and just barely cook it. More cooking
toughens it up a lot.

Take the meat you grilled the night before! Easy and it keeps well, and
other people will envy you! Plus plenty of fresh fruit. Also keeps well and
can be eaten any time. I eat lots of apples as on-the-road food. Add a few
veggies if you like variety.

Also, any quick recommendations for what to take to a Civil War reenactment
