Came across a neat summary of current "specialty" chicken and egg
production that might be of interest to the discussees about eggs etc:

It may seem expensive at first glance, but having designed and built three
predator-proof, moveable, coops I can see the elegance of what they have to
offer. Mostly because our chickens (about 50) lay their eggs (2 dozen/day)
in boxes on our porch! and have pretty much abandoned my coops. Oh well,
they are truly free-range at least...
