In my limited personal experience:

Children infected with lice do not know it, do not feel it. Don't know about adults.

An ounce of terrible pesticide is probably worth a pound of infestation.

Wear masks and gloves. Wash everything. And you may also have to judiciously pick nits if anyone has been infected.

My hubby and I visited my brother, sister-in-law and their 2 children (8 and 5
years old) in Seattle from Oct. 26 through the morning of October 30. We live
in NYC and I just received a call from my sister-in-law saying that she and her
two kids have head lice. My brother was somehow spared. Apparantly it's an
epidemic at the kids' school! YUCK. Anyway, this is day 10 that we've been
home and neither me nor my husband has noticed any itching. Of course it's
also Friday evening in NYC so no way to have a nurse check it out until
Monday. Any paleos out there have experience with head lice? I'm so grossed
out and afraid of the hideous chemical lice treatments I've read about over the
Internet. My sister-in-law said she noticed her scalp itched but she always
has a dry, itchy scalp so didn't think anything of it. She also said her children
claimed they didn't feel any itching. Any paleo wisdom - I am thoroughly
grossed out...
