....."Wow, this way of eating probably saved
>me from getting cancer 10 years ago." Or would you be the typical person
>and say "Damn, I thought this way of eating was supposed to help me
>avoid cancer!..and I got it anyway!!..What did I deny myself all those
years
>for!!"...I think most would say the latter.

The comment about being denied foods in order to be more healthy made me
laugh! Only because I have seen that concept posted on so many lists I have
been on! You see, we are so intelligent that we eat certain foods because
it: promotes health, helps us lose weight, makes us smarter, makes us live
longer, makes us SOMETHING better!

For the first time in my dieting career (seems like my entire adulthood has
been involved in finding the perfect diet) I have finally come to terms with
the true purpose of a selected diet. I can say that within my own lifetime
the shifts in what the most healthful diet *is* will continue to parody
itself. I no longer believe that a vegetarian diet is the most healthful, I
gained 120 pounds on it. I no longer believe my traditional Scandinavian
diet is healthful, I feel tired all the time and my joints ache. I don't
chose foods because I might live longer or prevent something, I finally have
chosen to eat certain foods because I "feel" better than I ever have. It's
an immediate and gratifying sense of wellbeing. I fully accept that I may
yet die of cancer, or become ill, but who wants to live in a bubble,
protected from everything? I could get cancer on paleo, but it might be
from a non-nutritional source, why blame the diet? I do not believe paleo
is the most healthful, nor any diet per se. What I do believe is that paleo
foods are satisfying and I eat without any sense of deprivation. I do
believe paleo brought me back to a "normal" and centered way of eating. I
am now binge-free, joint pain free, dieting-guilt-free and finally feel
there's more to life than eating.

Quite frankly, if I felt this way eating chocolate and pastry, that would be
what I would eat! Can't beat the "sense of wellbeing" and for me, it paleo
foods.
