I'm of two minds on this. I believe that the average US diet is not likely
to change unless the government changes its guidelines. But I also believe
that the use government will never make radical changes to the guidelines
because the whole process is very political. Huge tracts of land are
dedicated to growing grain in the US and the government even subsidizes
grain production. To suddenly change the diet guidelines to say that grains
should be minimized in the US diet would cause major political upheaval.
