Hello Amalita,

Here's one suggestion - though going "too far in" to their information can be
more "lesson" than one wants to hear, I think, until one wants to go vegan!
Used to be (and I'm assuming you can still do this), you could "adopt" a farm
animal through Farm Sanctuary: http://www.farmsanctuary.org/

We "adopted" a "rescue" cow and sent in some money (like $20 or something)
toward her feed and care, and got back from Farm Sanctuary a little photo of
her and so on. It was a way of getting everyone focused more on how much
better this cow's life was, not having to be a "milk machine", instead of our
own grumpies at not being able to healthily drink milk.

It's not an idea for everyone, but the youngsters loved it, especially having
the photo. They could even tell their friends about it, and how they were not
only helping themselves but also "their" cow by not drinking milk.

The biggest downside is that if you aren't vegan, and don't want to be, you
may or may not want to get too deep into Farm Sancturary's literature
(especially with the kids). On the other hand, even as a meat-eater, I still
agree that the horrors that modern farm animals usually have to endure is
completely unnecessary, and as unhealthy for us as for them, in the end.

Anyway - perhaps there are other similar organizations around, as well?
Perhaps they have a little different angle on it?

Jent
