Mostly the things it can do. I do like real milk on cereal, but I don't
like it to drink straight. I like butter better than the alternatives in
baking and caramel, real cream sauces, milk chocolate, real ice cream, etc.
I don't like anything else on cereal. When I'm off milk, I eat oatmeal
instead of cold cereal because the oatmeal is good without milk, and the
cold cereal isn't (IMO of course). I don't have any physical problems with
milk myself, but have been off milk (and soy) for long periods while nursing
infants who were sensitive to the tiniest amount of cow's milk or soy
products in my diet. I have been considering experimenting with taking my
middle son (who was allergic as an infant, but not obviously allergic now)
off milk again, due to some behavioral symptoms I think might be ameliorated
by avoiding it. But I don't buy that not using milk will make you stop
liking it. That was not my experience, despite being totally off milk
products for years.
