i've just gotten home from a long trip. Jordan was riding with her brother on the way home from a summer in North Carolina where he was playing baseball and she was team trainer. they hydroplaned in WVa into a bridge retainer wall. They are fine but i had the darndest time getting one paramedic to accept the fact that she could absolutely NOT be medicated for pain (she bruised her shins badly on the dash) b/c we could not be 100% positive that there was not casein or lactose in the medication as a binder. Thank goodness the other two paramedics listened and let her be released to my care. we made the 3 hour trip home and went immediately to her physician who said that it was probably a good thing that she didnt take anything. they are both well now and jordan has just a little lingering soreness. dont know what scared me worse .. the accident or the fact that she could have been hurt worse if treated. whew.

I have been catching up on posts and saw the thread about ham.. Jordan tells me that one major problem buying cold cuts is the fact that major groceries or delis slice their meat AND cheeses on the same slicer. so there is cross contamination. That is why she doesnt buy those meats. She has found that she can eat Butterball brand, "Hearty Deli Sliced, Honey Roasted & Smoked Turkey Breast" that comes in the pre-packaged resealable Zip Pak. We buy it at Kroger. There are other brands that she cannot eat b/c they use casein as a binder. But this one doesnt bother her.

She can also eat Mettwurst, or Kahn's Big Red Smokies. b/c they seem to be casein free but Brats are out of the question b/c of the casein again. Its a binder of sorts which is why it's in sausages. Also the Veggie brand of products SAYS it's dairy free but it contains casein... go figure.
