The National Summit on Africa has been asked to extend an invitation to
delegates and Africa-interested individuals to attend an exciting and
important convening of civil society in Africa -- Goree 2000 -- by
Professor Maurice Tadedjeu.  Goree 2000 is one of the priority projects
of the OAU Associations and Clubs.  The OAU Secretary General has
endorsed this project as have Ministers from many African countries and
leaders of organizations representing civil society on the continent.
The attached announcement will provide you with some information
regarding this upcoming event.

Professor Maurice Tadadjeu, President of the Panafrican Federation of
OAU Associations and Clubs, announces the first ever Civil Society
Summit on Pan-Africa Renaissance (GOREE 2000) to take place on the
symbolic island of Goree (Senegal, Africa) from August 21-26, 2000.
GOREE 2000 plans to launch the process of Pan-African Renaissance
through the following actions:

                -A celebration of the 100 years of Pan-Africanism
                -A drafting and adoption of the proposal of an African
citizenship fro the African diaspora
                -The promotion of Pan-Africa Referendums as a higher
dimension of the democratization process in Africa
                -The proposal of a "Pan-Africa Solidarity Visa" as a
means of generating more financial resources for the continent

Additionally, the Goree Summit will convene panels and conduct
deliberations on the following topics :

                -Improving and adopting the Draft Constitution of the
United States of Africa/Pan-African Union, proposed by the African civil
society on January 24-26, 2000.
                -Formally launch the OAU Volunteers Corps
                -Creating the African Civil Society Organization
