Subject: Alabama Petition against a ban on wearing hijab

In the Name of Allah, the most merciful, the most kind

ACTION ALERT!

The state of Alabama has passed a ban on wearing hijab (or head
scarf) for driver's license pictures. The oppression that Muslims
suffer all over The world is beginning to hit home.

A petition has been started by CAIR (Council on American-Islamic
Relations) to lift the ban, but it can only be successful with the
participation of ALL active, dedicated Muslims.

Go to http://www.cairhouston.org/alerts/alabamapetition.htm

By signing this petition you will show your support against the
decision made by the officials at the Alabama DPS. We encourage all
to sign it and pass this URL along to those who are interested in
furthering the cause of religious freedom.

Below is the text of the petition. Please fill in your name and email
then hit the submit button. This petition will be forwarded to key
officials at the Alabama DPS. If you have any questions please send
them to [log in to unmask]

Jazakullah Khair for your participation!

----------------------------------------

The religiously mandated headscarf worn by Muslim women traditionally
covers the hair, ears, neck, and a large portion of the forehead. The
frontal view of the face is sufficient to identify a person in any
type of picture identification. In fact, any attempt made to alter a
person's picture from their normal public appearance may cause
them
to be harassed and misidentified. Forcing Muslim women to remove
their headscarves to show more than their face for identification
would be a direct violation of their religious rights protected under
the Unites States Constitution.

We urge you to join the vast majority of other states in promoting a
tolerant healthy and diverse society by allowing a religious
exemption to the policy prohibiting head coverings in driver's
license photographs. Islamic headscarves are not equivalent to
baseball caps or head bands that will not necessarily be worn. I am
deeply concerned about the unnecessary emotional stress and hardship
due to Alabama's existing policy. Thank you for your time.

Your Petition will be sent to the following addresses:
