Commonwealth issues Observers’ report on Gambia Presidential Election

The report is reproduced in the form in which it was signed by the
Observers prior to their departure from Banjul last month.

The Commonwealth Secretariat today issued the report of the Commonwealth
Observer Group which was present for the Presidential Election in The
Gambia on 22 September 2006.

The report is reproduced here in the form in which it was signed by the
Observers prior to their departure from Banjul on 29 September 2006.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon has sent the Group’s report to
the President of The Gambia, the Chairman of The Gambia Independent
Electoral Commission, the main political parties in The Gambia, and
Commonwealth Governments.




The Group was chaired by the former Prime Minister of the United Republic
of Tanzania and former Secretary-General of the Organisation of African
Unity, Dr Salim Ahmed Salim.
