Short's revelations are quite shocking and a definite embarrassment
to the Blair Administration. However, there are also serious
implications that undermines the scandal as sold by the media. This
incident plus the subsequent confirmations of spying episodes at the
UN by Botrous Ghali and Richard Butler do really reinforce the Bush
Doctrine of preemption in the long run. It also feeds on earlier
suspicions of the integrity of the UN system. Every one knows that
the UN is a den of spies and corrupt diplomats from the Third Wold
countries. As such no responsible US president shall never bet US
National Security interests on such an effete organization.
