Hi! folks,

I would like to confirm to all regulars of BET, MTV, and other
music channels that a true daughter of the Gambia has made a remarkable
appearance in the latest Tupac video featuring Nas and titled THUGZ MANSION.
I am talking about that girl with those "close to home" features and long
braided hair standing by that window, with the headphone on and watching at
Nas on a tv screen.
That girl's name is Haddy(jatou) Cham, also known as Kara. She
is from Leman Street in Banjul. She is also a product of Gambia High School,
Saint Augustine's, and Temple University in Philadelphia.
Haddy is presently trying to make her niche in Hollywood where
she is regarded as one of the promising new talents. This has led her to be a
cast member in the upcoming Sony Pictures' big production movie TEARS OF THE
SUN, starring none other than popular action-hero Bruce "Die Hard" Willis.
Haddy's got a major role in it along with female stars like Monica Bellucci
and Akosia Busia, among others. The movie will be in theaters this coming
Friday, March 7 (in the US).
To say the least, the movie industry is a rather uncharted
territory for Gambian women (correct me if I am wrong.) But I guess that is
why pioneers exist. Still, all illusions apart, we all know that Hollywood
can be very cruel. That's why we need to wish good luck (did someone say
BREAK A LEG?) and support the young woman who, I am sure, can make a name for
herself in the business thanks to her brains much more than her looks.
