The Secretary General of Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, Anders B. Johnson, who is also a member of Committee on the human rights of parliamentarians will arrive in The Gambia on June 14 to investigate the human rights violations regarding the case of Lamin Waa Juwara, Omar A. Jallow former MPs and Buba Samura MP. The committee had expressed concern over the detention of Omar A. Jallow, ex-Serrekunda East MP and former minister of Agriculture in the PPP regime during the transition without charges, and also his banning from active politics under Decree 89.

It would also investigate the case of former parliamentarian, Lamin Waa Juwara following his detention during the transition period. The IPU representative would also examine the case of the Buba Samura, a UDP National Assembly member who was recently held in detention. During his three-day visit, Mr. Ander's will hold talks with the President of The Gambia a meeting to be organised by the National Assembly or competent Government authority. He will also meet with the Speaker of the National Assembly, National Assembly members, leaders of the opposition, Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice, the Secretary of State for the Interior, Chief Justice, Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency. He would also have a tete-a-tete with Lamin Waa Juwara, his lawyer and family and also with Omar A. Jallow, with his lawyer and family.
