OB, Ebrima, Yus

Who ever thought the US elections would ever come to this. The last time I
checked, the recount is still showing Bush leading by less than a thousand
votes which means that the absentee votes would have to be counted - a
process that could take at least ten days according to Florida election
officials. I see the battle for Florida to end up in court considering the
emerging allegations, ranging from ballot design (which democrats believe
was deliberately designed to deceive and confuse democrats voters) to
missing ballot boxes etc.

The vote deadlock has given people the opportunity to see the two candidates
under pressure and I must say that Goreis handling himself more maturely
than Bush, who appears impatient to the point of sulkiness. Bush has even
gone to the extent of letting it be known that he has installed his
Transition Team to be headed by Dick Cheney. That's Bush for you, folks.

Ebrima, you are right, it is Cherno Jallow of East Timor. The mistake was
mine and I have since exchange notes with Che (former Deputy Permanent,
Dept. of Foreign Affairs). My apologies to Cherno Baba who is also a younger
brother and I do enjoy his pieces.

Sidi Sanneh
