Did the Private media folks actually play against the AFPRC? I thought
they'd rejected the offer by "Scattered", to be conned, in a recent
editorial? Then whom among the private media played, inquiring minds want
to know? I guess they have forgotten about Deyda, or is this in honor of
Deyda? I hope that this is just the Observer performing their usual
mouthpiece functions for Yaya. I wonder why Tony did not make it. Too
constipated, I guess!

Gov’t, media draw
Written by Nanama Okocha Keita & Yususf Ceesay

The football game between government and the media fraternity ended in a
draw Sunday at Bakau mini stadium as both sides fired blanks.

Watched by hundreds of football enthusiasts, the game featured top
government officials ranging from Edward Singhatey, SoS Samba Faal, Lang
Tombong Tamba, Col Momodou Badjie, among others.

The Government’s coach and captain, President Yahya Jammeh could not make it
due to his tight schedule but was ably represented by the Vice President,
Isatou Njie-Saidy .

The media team which fielded a relatively younger players thought the game
was going to be an easy one but suddenly found themselves in trouble when
the opponents defy their age and failing strength to wreck havoc in the
media defense. Goalkeeper Kebba Dibba was ocassionally made busy by
marauding government attackers but the old Sintet primary school keeper was
able to rekindle some of his hey days tactics to seal the post. However, his
substitute Eric Orji, Observer Loveline columnist proved a prolific
goalkeeper for the media side pulling up dangerous savings and denying the
government potential goals from Edward Singhatey and Lang Tombong Tamba.

The game ended goalless draw in the regulation period and was postponed
until the Under-17 championship has passed then it would be replayed to find
a winner for the giant trophy that was put in stake.

Speaking to Observer sports shortly after the game, Isatou Njie- Saidy, Vice
President and SoS for Women’s Affairs, said the President could not make it
to the football ground due to his busy schedules. "Even though he was not
with us physically, his spirit is with us throughout the game," she said.

She added that the football game between the two was a testimony that the
government and the media fraternity are one family.

Edward Singhatey, government’s striker said: "Anybody who missed this game
had missed something memorable. Everyone was a winner in the game and I am
very grateful to his excellency the president for initiating such an event."

Mr Singhatey also thanked the members of the press, the general public and
the government officials who turn up to witness the game.
