Yes Bro.,

I see your point as far as imperialism in 'The Third World' is concerned;
but I'm not sure I fully understand the rest of your argument.

What is new here however and what caught my attention is that this is not
just the UN we are talking about here, and not just any of functionary, but
it's Secretary General whose office was tapped. Now that is new as far as I
know; and even if such has ever occurred before, what any lay
observer/follower of world events would tell you is that America is more
inclined to commit such acts than Britain. (I am not at all implying any
'Saintliness' on the part of the Brits either for I know better).

My point is, this act is a far cry from tapping the offices of a 'The Third
World' leader, for countries have spied on each other since the advent of
the formation of nation states. Remember the Cuban/Ghanaian spying heist
against the US in the mid eighties?

The offices of the UN should be sacred simply because it is highest world
body with more member countries than any other. It's Security Council makes
decisions that are binding on its members even if some regularly flaunt them
with apparent impunity.

When America and Britain defied the UN and went to war against Iraq not only
did an overwhelming majority of member states condemn it but ordinary folks
the world over took to the streets to manifest their disgust. This act of
tapping the offices of it's head should not be viewed as any less
disgusting.

I hope you see my point now?

Regards,

Kabir.
