Thie precedent that led the country to these unfortunate incidents falls
squarely on the shoulders of the leadership. A while ago, I pointed out that
Yahya Jammeh had chosen to hide behind the cloak of religion to further
justify his mantle of leadership. He built a state house mosque and granted
a religious and intolerant zealot in Imam Fatty the power to preach several
sermons of intolerance. This man spoke out against the movement to ban FGM.
He also condemned the bussing of male and female students together.
Furthermore, he supported the Northern Nigerian states that implemented
Sharia as a code of law. For some strange reason, his sermons seemed to be
very geared against women. Thus creating an anti-female sentiment in the
minds of ignoramuses running around.

KB, to make a long story, when intolerance is sanctioned at the highest level
under the guise of Islam, this is exactly what happens. I also believe that
these type of atrocities will be common place as long as these dangerous
Imam's continue to be sanctioned by the president.
