Excerpt from The Point of 5 January 2000:

Samuel Sarr, the businessman incriminated in the Government's press release,
has reacted. Mr. Sarr maintains that for the veracity and facts of the
documents one should check with the British High Commission in The Gambia,
the servers of the summons on behalf of the commercial court of the High
Court of London; also with the commercial court of London; and the judgment
delivered in the same commercial court in London where a judgment was
granted against the Gambia Goverment in the amount of $601,625.32.

Sarr went on to declare:

"I wish to state for the record that I most strongly repudiate, refute and
disclaim any allegations and accusations levelled against me by the Gambia
Government or agents of the Gambia Government. I do not have the means to
deceive all the parties involved namely, NNPC, Glencore, and the Federal
Government of Nigeria to release the Gambia Government quota of crude oil to
my humble self.

Sarr further alleged that the explanation proferred by the Government is the
most flimsy one, and lacks merit as evidenced in findings by an
international court of law. He went further to state that the case and the
judgment in question took place some years and months ago.

Sarr further stated that he has at all times conducted his business matters
legitimately the world over, and that The Gambia is no exception, adding
that he strictly adheres to the rule of law.

He "urged the UDP leader to reveal to the public, the insider source in the
person of minister and fake friends of the Gambia Government for the sake of
transparency and probity, and to exonerate my humble self from acts to which
I am no party." .
