Just as Baba Galleh said, even though the football match went ahead, but as
far as I know, only journalists of the government-controlled media, which
unfortunately includes the Daily Observer played against the government. It
was therefore very unfair on the part of our colleagues at the Daily
Observer to be giving the impression in their coverage of the event that it
involved all the media. That tantamount to spin-doctoring the news to suit
a particular purpose. They should have been honest enough to indicate that
the GPU turned down the invitation to participate.
However, the Daily Observer not only deliberately failed to even mention
the GPU press Release which was sent to all media houses regarding their
position on the match, but on a daily basis, Lamin Cham, in his
advertisement on GRTS gave the impression that the match was between the
government and the media fraternity, failing to mention that the GPU was
not part of it.

<P>Joe,</P>
<P>I am not aware that any member of the private media played in this game.
The few media players mentioned here are from GRTS (Kebba Dibba) and the
Observer (Eric Orji). I think the reporters of this story would have
mentioned any members of the private media that played in the game. I stand
to be corrected but I think the media mentioned here is simply the
government-controlled media. Perhaps the Observer should clarify and name
all the represented media houses. I would be dissappointed if any memebr of
the private media played. Let's wait and see.</P>

<DIV></DIV>>Did the Private media folks actually play against the AFPRC?  I
<DIV></DIV>>thought
<DIV></DIV>>they'd rejected the offer by "Scattered", to  be conned, in a
recent
<DIV></DIV>>editorial?  Then whom among the private media played, inquiring
<DIV></DIV>>minds want
<DIV></DIV>>to know?  I guess they have forgotten about Deyda, or is this in
<DIV></DIV>>honor of
<DIV></DIV>>Deyda?  I hope that this is just the Observer performing their
usual
<DIV></DIV>>mouthpiece functions for Yaya.  I wonder why Tony did not make
it.
<DIV></DIV>>Too
<DIV></DIV>>constipated, I guess!

<DIV></DIV>>Gov’t, media draw
<DIV></DIV>>Written by Nanama Okocha Keita & Yususf Ceesay
<DIV></DIV>>Tuesday, 26 April 2005
<DIV></DIV>>The football game between government and the media fraternity
ended
<DIV></DIV>>in a
<DIV></DIV>>draw Sunday at Bakau mini stadium as both sides fired blanks.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Watched by hundreds of football enthusiasts, the game featured
top
<DIV></DIV>>government officials ranging from Edward Singhatey, SoS Samba
Faal,
<DIV></DIV>>Lang
<DIV></DIV>>Tombong Tamba, Col Momodou Badjie, among others.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>The Government’s coach and captain, President Yahya Jammeh
could not
<DIV></DIV>>make it
<DIV></DIV>>due to his tight schedule but was ably represented by the Vice
<DIV></DIV>>President,
<DIV></DIV>>Isatou Njie-Saidy .
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>The media team which fielded a relatively younger players
thought
<DIV></DIV>>the game
<DIV></DIV>>was going to be an easy one but suddenly found themselves in
trouble
<DIV></DIV>>when
<DIV></DIV>>the opponents defy their age and failing strength to wreck
havoc in
<DIV></DIV>>the
<DIV></DIV>>media defense. Goalkeeper Kebba Dibba was ocassionally made
busy by
<DIV></DIV>>marauding government attackers but the old Sintet primary school
<DIV></DIV>>keeper was
<DIV></DIV>>able to rekindle some of his hey days tactics to seal the post.
<DIV></DIV>>However, his
<DIV></DIV>>substitute Eric Orji, Observer Loveline columnist proved a
prolific
<DIV></DIV>>goalkeeper for the media side pulling up dangerous savings and
<DIV></DIV>>denying the
<DIV></DIV>>government potential goals from Edward Singhatey and Lang
Tombong
<DIV></DIV>>Tamba.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>The game ended goalless draw in the regulation period and was
<DIV></DIV>>postponed
<DIV></DIV>>until the Under-17 championship has passed then it would be
replayed
<DIV></DIV>>to find
<DIV></DIV>>a winner for the giant trophy that was put in stake.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Speaking to Observer sports shortly after the game, Isatou Njie-
<DIV></DIV>>Saidy, Vice
<DIV></DIV>>President and SoS for Women’s Affairs, said the President could
not
<DIV></DIV>>make it
<DIV></DIV>>to the football ground due to his busy schedules. "Even though
he
<DIV></DIV>>was not
<DIV></DIV>>with us physically, his spirit is with us throughout the game,"
she
<DIV></DIV>>said.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>She added that the football game between the two was a testimony
<DIV></DIV>>that the
<DIV></DIV>>government and the media fraternity are one family.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Edward Singhatey, government’s striker said: "Anybody who missed
<DIV></DIV>>this game
<DIV></DIV>>had missed something memorable. Everyone was a winner in the
game
<DIV></DIV>>and I am
<DIV></DIV>>very grateful to his excellency the president for initiating
such an
<DIV></DIV>>event."
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Mr Singhatey also thanked the members of the press, the general
<DIV></DIV>>public and
<DIV></DIV>>the government officials who turn up to witness the game.
