Internal affairs minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda is leading a team of 11 ministers and heads of various sectors of government to Kigali for talks aimed at forging closer cooperation between Rwanda and Uganda.

Sources said Rwandan ministers and officials are expected to pay a reciprocal visit soon.

The Kigali meeting comes shortly after a visit to Kampala by the Rwandan External Security Organisation (ESO) chief, Col. Patrick Karegyeya, and that of the Directorate of Military Intelligence, Col. Jack Nziza, to discuss closer collaboration.

Recently, Rwanda's army chief-of-staff Gen. James Kabareebe attended the UPDF's February 6th Army Day, commonly referred to as Tarehe, Sita at the army headquarters in Bombo.

Uganda's ambassador to Rwanda, Adonia Ayebare, was quoted by the local press as saying the Kigali talks were intended to consolidate co-operation. He said it was a meeting of the permanent Joint Commission that brings together officials from both governments to discuss matters of co-operation.

The team includes John Nasasira, Tarsis Kabwegyere, Brig. Jim Muhwezi and Augustine Nshimye.
