will induce a significant insulin response also, and this will still occur
on the paleo diet. It is the massive spikes (and subsequent troughs) that we
are trying to avoid (simple carbs.). Adaptation to a higher fat oxidation
level, especially during exercise by athletes is now well recognised over
the course of a few weeks. This is enzyme related, (increases in HSL breaks
down fat in the tissues, and increases in LPL breaks down fat from the diet
for energy) and therefore this fuel burning preference would persist at
rest. (Hence training is a BIG part of the whole equation).</FONT></P>
<P><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff">Getting back to fat and insulin,
I suspect Markus's comments are related to a high fat AND carb. meal, in
which case the insulin response post-prandial IS significantly increased
(synergisitic). This is the bodies response to trying to make best use of
the &quot;feast&quot; of fuel while it's there: Insulin will help store BOTH
carbs and fat as fat in fat tissue.In fact insulin effects a &quot;double
whammy&quot;, as it also inhibits fat breakdown in the tissues.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff">If anyone can give a reference
for research showing high insulin&nbsp; response to pure fat I'd be very
interested to see it!</FONT></P>
<P><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff">-The main response demonstrated
to increasing dietary fat levels is an increase in Lipoprotein lipase (LPL)
which acts to break the fat down for either energy or storage - a GOOD thing
if you're working on a higher fat % diet. Basically the whole fat
breakdown-utilisation-storage- etc. cycle is kept running
smoothly.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff">I think there still is a place
for carbs (complex) in the diet, and following some of you other guys advice
I'm now having a primarily carb / protein meal post-workout, in order to
utilise the insulin for muscle replenishment. Otherwise I keep the carbs
(and insulin) low through the rest of the day. (The slight sleepiness I get
after this is ok, cos I'm going to bed soon after).</FONT></P>
