I wanted to tell you all about a great weight bench deal at Olympia
Sports. It is the Impex Powerhouse. The bench is about $200 and a 300#
olympic weight set is about $150. I paid a welding shop $50 dollars to
lengthen the two cross-members so the uprights are olympic width, and
for less than $400 I have an excellent set-up. It is inexpensive because
it is made in China, but everything works fine. The rack has an overhead
arch connecting the uprights, which serve as both bench rack and squat
rack without converting anything. The bench is separate from the rack so
you move it out of the way for squats. It has an attachment for leg
extensions/curls, and a preacher curl attachment. The rack also has a
pulldown cable and low row cable (no converting necessary there either).
The uprights were just a little too narrow for a properly wide grip on
the bench press, so I had the cross members extended and I can give you
more details about that if you're interested. I've always wanted my own
free weight set up, but the expense was the obstacle. Now with the
equipment at home, workouts are much more regular and take less time
than going to a gym. And it will pay for itself in savings on membership
fees pretty quickly. You just have to have a place to put it.
