Phil,

I think I might know the general answer for why we all suffer in this life. 
Mankind has chosen to learn things the hard way, and God also wants us to 
see that we are all responsible for one another in our behaviors/words. 
Perhaps Adam and Eve were not satisfied to let God be God, and what they did 
had a ripple effect on all mankind.
