  Trash It

  By Phil Scovell

It pays to know God's voice when you hear it. You've have
never once heard God's voice? I bet that isn't true. You see, I
was raised to believe that the only way we hear God's voice is by
reading and studying the written Word of God. This I have always
done and probably do it more now, after 50 years of walking with
the Lord, than I even did in my youth. The voice of God, on the
other hand, is heard in your thoughts, or literally, in your
spirit where the Holy Spirit comes to dwell with you when you were
Born Again. When we pray, therefore, it is not a one way
conversation, or shouldn't be, and in fact, we should learn to
listen. How many Christians do you know that pray to hear from
God, that is, they pray to listen? Normally, it is the other way
around; we pray and hope God is listening. How sad. I trust you
will learn that He indeed wants to be much closer to you and He
actually wants to commune with you in the most spiritually
intimate of ways that are unknown and unfamiliar to most
Christians. Let me show you what I mean.

It is quite dry all year in the Denver, Colorado area of the
country. I often run a small vaporizer to put moisture into the
air in my small office because of the dryness of throat I would
get. Someone moved it the other day as they installed some
equipment in my office. I didn't realize the little vaporizer was
on the floor shoved up against the wall until a couple of days
later when I tripped over it. My grandchildren are always coming
and going and leaving their things in my office so at first, I
just figured it was something that belonged to them. Since I'm
blind, I hadn't seen it there before so I picked it up to see what
it was. Since I was in a rush to get something else done, I put
the little vaporizer back together and placed it on the floor in
the exact same place. Yes, as hard as that may be to believe, I
put it exactly in the same spot again. Stupid, I know, but I did
  it regardless.

Over the next several days, as I went around the corner of my
desk, I often kicked the little square shaped box over several
times. I continually put it back together and replaced it exactly
where it had been. Again, stupid, I know.

One day, as I was putting it back together and getting ready
to, once again, replace it exactly where I could kick it over, I
said to myself, "This thing is so old, you should get rid of it."
It sounded reasonable to me but I didn't really want to get rid of
it because, I thought, "I might need it again."

The next day, upon walking around that end of my desk, sure
enough, I kicked over the vaporizer, which was empty by the way,
but this time something different happened. I heard another
voice, not my own, say, "You might as well throw that thing away
since you won't be needing it any more." I recognized that voice
instantly because I have learned to listen. Smiling to myself, I
gathered up all the parts, and dropped them into the trash
receptacle behind my desk which will be taken out to the outdoors
trash barrel and will never be seen again. Why? Because I heard
  God's voice and I obeyed.

About this point in every testimony I give, someone is
thinking, "Does God really communicate with people like that?"
Only if you are listening. Do you know how? Perhaps you should
learn how easy it is to literally hear the voice of the Lord
through prayer and confirmation from His Word.

"What if what you hear isn't God's voice?"

Answer. Why would that bother you when you don't even think
you believe that you can hear God's voice in the first place? If
we can't hear God; we can't hear demons. Right?

"Don't we have to test the spirits?"

Answer. Yes, but only if you don't know how to tell the
difference between the Chief Shepherd's voice and that of the
  Enemy.

"Well, what if you are told something that isn't true?"

Answer. Ask Adam's wife that question. What you really mean
is, what do we do if what we hear is a lie? This is why you must
know the Word of God. That's how you test the spirits. It isn't
a ritualistic ceremony you perpetrate every time you think you've
heard something, it is recognizing the truth from a lie on the
  fly, sort of speak.

"Well, then, what if it really is a lie?"

       Answer. Don't believe it.

"Doesn't that mean a demon is around if you hear something
  like that?"

       Answer. Yes.

       "So what happens then?"

Answer. It depends upon what you believe. Like I always
say, the curse the works is the one we believe. If you don't
believe you can hear the words of demons, be touched by demonic
feelings, or intercept demonic thoughts penetrating your thoughts,
I suppose you would do nothing. I, on the other hand, would do
  something about it right away.

"This makes me kind of nervous to think I might hear
  something that isn't of God."

Answer. Understandable but that happens probably every day.
It is what we do about it that makes the difference.

"Don't you have to cast it out if you hear such things?"

Answer. What for? You can't be demon possessed.

"Are there ways of protecting yourself from such things?"

Answer. Yes and no. Yes, knowing the truth will set you
free. Recognizing the difference between God's voice and that of
the Enemy makes a big difference. Yes, you can put on the whole
armor of God and the fiery darts of the Wicked will bounce
harmlessly away. No, you cannot stop the Enemy from messing
around in your life but all we are required to do is resist by
  standing.

       "Well, I'm afraid of this."

Answer. Me, too, but there is no other way.

"The Bible says, Be not afraid. So can't we live a life
  without fear?"

       Answer. You bet.

       "Totally free of fear?"

       Answer. Totally free.

"What happens when I get scared?"

       Answer. Trash it.

"How do I go about doing that? I mean, fear is fear, isn't
  it?"

Answer. According to Jesus, learning to recognize the sound
of His voice will eliminate any possibility of accepting the lies
spoken by a Stranger, that is, the Enemy.

"Can you teach me how to live this way?"

       Answer. Yes.
