Hello friends and colleagues,

Apologies for cross-postings. Feel free to distribute this message.

I am preparing a report on the current state of PDF accessibility:

* Directions on the best ways to produce accessible PDF (from scratch).

* Techniques for remediating existing PDF documents.

* The experiences of users with disabilities who find that PDF results in
enhanced accessibility.

* The experiences of users with disabilities who find that PDF remains
problematic.

* The barriers to PDF accessibility that have not yet been solved.

* Third-party tools that have been developed (or that are under development)
for enhancing PDF accessibility.

* Recent publications (2005 and 2006) on issues related to PDF
accessibility.

I am hoping to include in my report the experiences of people who regularly
deal with PDF:

* Users with disabilities, particularly people with low-vision; screen
reader users; and people who do not use (or avoid using) a mouse.

* Individuals who have legal obligations to provide documents in accessible
formats.

* Service providers, researchers, or developers who work toward enhancing
the accessibility of PDF.

I will send an overview of my findings to everyone who contributes their
thoughts and ideas.

Please drop me a line at [log in to unmask] by 22 September 2006. If you
would find it more convenient to talk on the telephone, send me your phone
number and the best times to call. I look forward to hearing from you.

Alan
