I faced the same quandry, and am quite happy with "ftp explorer".  It allows one to create profiles, including log-on, up and download
info, and, allows retries, most important--is speech friendly.  Have only tested it thus far with JFW, but suspect it'll be OK no matter
what screen reader is used.
