For all who read and pondered my proposed action re: the MexicoPeace
organization's effort to build bilingual schools in rebel-held territory
in Chaiapas, I'd like to say that I'm still trying to put stuff together
as far as that goes. Until then, I'd recommend that you deal directly
with the San Diego organization itself.
Doing this is not going to be a cakewalk for me either: I'm a student
and I may have to forego or delay some summer classes I had planned on
taking at college here, which are dependent on a student loan I just
received. If I don't take the classes and have them finished by the time
loan re-payment is due, do you think the bank will be merciful and
lenient with me? Ha ha. I'm doing the Chiapas thing anyway, because I
think, in the long run, when I'm on my deathbed, I'll look back on it as
one of the things I did that gave my life some modicum of meaning. Not
to mention it will benefit the Mayan Indians that have been putting up
with Western domination for about 500 years now.
One advantage I think I have over you guys is that I live in Texas, so
the thought of just *driving* down to Chiapas to help out has crossed my
mind! I will present something in about a week as far as the
Zapatista/Chiapas action plan goes. Mexico Peace seems to be a primarily
San Diego-based organziation; I may look into opening a chapter here in
Texas, maybe on-campus if nothing else. I know a lot of people in the
school's Amnesty International chapter, and they may be interested in
providing some manpower.
        Later guys/gals. Liberty and peace.

"If it is correct, as I believe it is, that a fundamental element of
human nature is the need for creative work or creative inquiry, for free
creation without the arbitrary limiting effects of coercive
institutions, then of course it will follow that a decent society should
maximize the possibilities for this fundamental human characteristic to
be realized. Now, a federated, decentralized system of free associations
incorporating economic as well as social institutions would be what I
refer to as anarcho-syndicalism. And it seems to me that it is the
appropriate form of social organization for an advanced technological
society, in which human beings do not have to be forced into the
position of tools, of cogs in a machine. " -- Prof. Noam Chomsky, MIT
