I have only recently joined this e-mail list, so I don't
know if this particular issue has been discussed yet. I apologise if it
has.

I would like to commend Noam Chomsky for putting his name
to a letter printed in several British publications; a letter of support
for Living Marxism magazine concerning their current libel case with ITN
news.

Four months ago, German freelance journalist Thomas
Deichmann published an article in Living Marxism, claiming that ITN news'
footage of a Bosnian 'concentration camp', Tronopolje, was actually set
up; and that there was no true concentration camp there.

Since then, ITN's journalists have issued libel writs to
Living Marxism for 'deffamation of character', and have threatened to sue
their printers if they publish ANY future issues of the magazine. ITN is
financing the journalists' court costs, while Living Marxism, a small
publication, is still struggling to get enough money for a libel lawyer.

Although Diechmann's story has been printed throughout
Europe, it has had no outlet in the UK other than Living Marxism magazine.
The threat of ITN hangs over the heads of anybody else who would question
the authenticity of ITN pictures. Libel law is essentially being used as
a gagging order to silence any criticism of a major company, and freedom
of expression is being denied.

As a vendor of Living Marxism magazine, I am grateful for
Noam Chomsky's support in this matter.
